Thus begins an awkward relationship, between a reluctant husband who despises being forced into the marriage and the girl who dreamed of love. In the end, the unwilling groom is compelled to acquiesce to the marriage. His father scorns his lack of educational success and admonishes him that he is no better, “dasvi to nikal na paya, juhi chawla ke sapne dekh raha hai”. Prem throws a fit and refuses to marry a girl who is plump. Tiwaris and Vermas get together, through an intermediary, and arrange a marriage between their children, Prem and Sandhya. Sandhya is also plump but then looks are often relegated to the least useful category, when arranging a marriage. Their attention is drawn to Sandhya Tiwari ( Bhumi Pednekar ), who is educated and aspires to be a teacher. After all, Prem is deemed a failure by his father. An educated girl from a good family would help uplift the family economically by bringing in an extra source of income. His family, led by his overbearing father ( Sanjay Mishra ), chooses a girl for him, based on reasons that are purely practical. Insecure young man, Prem Prakash Tiwari ( Ayushmann Khurrana ) has nurtured his own version of a perfect life partner, a beautiful slim girl. Brilliantly written and directed by Sharat Katariya, the scenes flow seamlessly, without appearing excessive or contrived.
#DUM LAGA KE HAISHA REVIEWS MOVIE#
She is the one character as a take away from the movie for me.Dum Laga Ke Haisha is a beautiful romantic comedy that offers the laughs amid touching, tender moments, as a young couple, forced into a marriage by the family elders, tries to find what is in their own heart, and in the process finds a way to each other’s heart. She is aware of her limitations as a bride but also aware that the person to be her husband also has his own limitations and is ready to accept them with eyes open. She has the confidence in her education and immediately braces herself to deal with the separation without losing her self esteem, to face what life brings to her after her divorce, instead of wallowing in self pity.

Like any other girl, she has that dream of a fairy tale wedding and also the Prince Charming and she gets married to Prem because she likes him, but when she realizes that she has no value in his eyes, she does not get depressed or does not lose her self worth. DLH has many such hilarious moments and is in general an entertaining and an enjoyable watch.īut the message that I got from the psychological point of view is from the girl Sandhya’s character was the movie.

The way the two mothers cry outside the court before the divorce proceedings of the duo is absolutely hilarious. Under his father’s pressure he does get married and thus starts a love story of Prem and Sandhya.Īll the actors have done a wonderful job even the supporting cast has done a terrific job in supporting. His father tries to explain him in the way he can, that the educated girl will bring better days to the family but Prem is a prisoner of his own perspective.

His father decides to get him married to Sandhya who has done her BEd and is better educated than many other, according to the social standards therein.īut Prem does not want to get married to her only because of one drawback and that she is fat. Prem is a young man who is very much drawn to his audio and video recording shop but does not pass his 10th grade even after 2 attempts due to weak English. Watched DUM LAGAKE HAISHA starring Ayushman Khurana as Prem and Bhumi Pednekar as Sandhya.
